After nearly two decades of planning, the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts opened this past weekend in my hometown of Kansas City, Missouri. The space itself is seriously swank. Two theaters – one for music, one for drama – encased in shell-like, um, shell encasements. As part of the opening festivities, Quixotic Fusion, a hybrid band/dance/light projection/performance art thing, lit up the place with one of the cooler bits of 3D projection mapping I’ve seen. Quixotic is based in KC and was co-founded by a friend and former colleague of mine, Anthony Magliano. Look him up if you need this sort of spectacle – his bids were much less than I anticipated. Did I mention he has a coterie of ballerinas at his disposal?
